State training funds & grants – What you need to know

What exactly does Kaizen do? Deliver training, or help with funding?

Both. Kaizen’s core role is delivering world-class Lean and Continuous Improvement training to your teams. What makes us different in this context is that we also help you access the state funding that makes that training affordable, or in some states, completely free. You don’t need to navigate the funding process alone.

All three, and it varies by state. Illinois and New Jersey run competitive reimbursement grants. California uses a performance-based contract. Michigan and Colorado use talent and workforce funds. Virginia offers a jobs investment reimbursement. We use “State Training Funds & Grants” as an umbrella because the mechanism varies, but the result is the same: a significant portion of your training costs is covered by the state.

It depends on your state and business size, anywhere from 50% to 100% of eligible training costs. Georgia regional programs and some others cover training entirely for qualifying employers. Illinois and New Jersey typically cover around 50%. California reimburses on a per-training-hour basis after completion. Most private-sector businesses with employees in the relevant state are eligible. The main factors are: number of employees, whether training is for new hires or existing staff, and the type of training involved.

Yes, for most programs on this page. Our Lean, 5S, Value Stream Analysis, and Continuous Improvement programs qualify as incumbent worker training under the schemes listed here, all of which allow employers to choose their own training provider.

No, every state program requires funding approval before training begins. This is a firm rule without exception. We recommend reaching out at least 30 days before your planned start date so everything is in place before your teams step into a session.
